What This Site Is
Radon York PA is an independent information resource covering radon testing and mitigation in York County, Pennsylvania. We explain what mitigation involves, what it should cost, what Pennsylvania law requires of the people doing the work, and how to verify that a contractor is certified before you hire them.
What We Are Not
We are not a radon mitigation contractor. We do not install systems, we do not perform certified radon testing, and we do not operate a laboratory. Those are all certified activities in Pennsylvania and we do not hold that certification.
We say this prominently because most radon content online is published by companies that sell mitigation, and that shapes what gets written. An article explaining why you should mitigate reads differently when the author is the one installing the system.
Why Pennsylvania Specifically
Radon regulation is state-level, and Pennsylvania's position is unusual on two counts. The Department of Environmental Protection describes Pennsylvania as having one of the most serious radon problems in the country, and estimates that 40 percent of homes tested in the Commonwealth exceed the Environmental Protection Agency's action guideline of 4 picocuries per litre.
Pennsylvania also runs its own certification programme, administered by DEP's Radon Division, covering radon testing, mitigation and laboratory analysis for both individuals and firms. National guidance often glosses over state certification, which is precisely the detail that matters most when you are choosing who to hire here.
